Equipment pool & Event Team
Wingfoil Equipment Pool
Equipment is included in the Wingfoil event. Throughout the entire event, you’ll have access to a full set of equipment, including a board, foil (depending on your skill level), and wing. You can choose from our top-of-the-line F-ONE equipment pool and will always have the perfect size for you.
KBC Events: What You Need to Know
Our events thrive on group participation. They’re designed for at least 3 participants; typically, 6 to 14 kitesurfers or wingfoilers join together at the starting line. That’s exactly what it’s all about: learning together, watching each other, picking up tips from one another—and discussing the session and sharing experiences in the evening. We deliberately focus on the social aspect of water sports, not just the lesson itself.
Not enough participants?
If, for any reason, only one or two participants have booked a session, your training will of course still take place. We’ll then put together an equivalent alternative for you—depending on your skill level, this could include joining an ongoing beginner or advanced course, or a private or semi-private training session.
Your event price will be fully credited toward the selected option: You won’t pay any more, but you’ll receive a more intensive experience. Please understand that the duration will change accordingly—a private lesson with the instructor’s undivided attention is significantly more valuable per hour than a group lesson, so the event price will be converted into the number of hours for the respective product. The value remains the same, and experience shows that the learning curve is actually steeper.
What is a KBC Event?
A KBC Event is a one-week group kitesurfing or wingfoil course held at one of KBC’s locations around the world—featuring 6 days of professional instruction, one day of free practice time, and a set social program consisting of lively evenings, restaurant outings, and group activities. KBC World hosts these events in El Gouna (Egypt), Dakhla (Morocco, on both sides of the lagoon), Sicily (Lo Stagnone), Tarifa (Spain), and Parajuru (Brazil).
How does a KBC event differ from a regular kite course?
A KBC event differs from a regular kite course in its fixed group, set weekly structure, and social program. A standard basic course consists of 6 to 10 lessons spread over 2 to 3 days; an event offers 6 full days of instruction with 4 to 6 hours of water time each day, plus a free practice day and a social program. You travel alone and spend the week with a group that shares the same goal—to make progress together.
Who are KBC events suitable for?
KBC events are suitable for all skill levels—from absolute beginners with no prior experience to intermediate riders looking to advance, all the way to advanced riders working on jumps, turning techniques, or the transition to foiling. Participants are divided into groups on-site based on skill level, with a maximum of 6 students per instructor.
How many participants are there at a KBC event?
A KBC event is designed for a minimum of 3 participants; typically, there are 6 to 14 kitesurfers or wingfoilers. The maximum number of participants per event is 14. Lessons are always conducted in small groups of no more than 6 students per instructor. Social interaction is a deliberate part of the event concept—learning together, watching each other, and reviewing the session in the evening.
What happens if only one or two participants have booked?
The training will still take place even if only one or two people have made a booking—it will be adapted to an equivalent format. Depending on skill level, this may involve joining an ongoing beginner or advanced course, or receiving private or semi-private training. The price of the event you’ve already booked will be fully credited toward the selected option. Because a private lesson is more intensive—and therefore offers greater value—than a group lesson, the duration will be adjusted accordingly; the value remains the same, and experience shows that the learning curve is actually steeper.
Can I attend a KBC event as an individual?
Yes, most participants in a KBC event travel alone. The format is designed precisely for this: you arrive as an individual and spend the week with a group that shares the same goal. The social program, featuring get-togethers, restaurant visits, and excursions, ensures that the group bonds quickly.
Can I book a KBC event for a private group?
Yes, for groups of 6 or more, custom dates are available—including in Tarifa, Dakhla, and for the Kitesurfing Adventure Week in Sicily. Requests for group dates should be sent to travel@KBC-World.com.
What is the minimum age to participate in a KBC event?
The recommended age for KBC kitesurfing lessons is around 15 years old. Minors require the consent and signature of a parent or legal guardian. There’s no upper age limit—the oldest KBC student to date was 78 years old.
Do I need to know how to swim to participate in a KBC event?
Yes, being a confident swimmer is a requirement. You should be able to stay afloat for at least 15 minutes. However, special fitness or strength isn’t necessary—kitesurfing is a technical sport; you’re pulled by the kite, not by your arms.
Schedule and Services
What’s the schedule for a KBC event week?
A KBC event week lasts 7 days: 6 days of instruction and one day of free practice time. For kite events, there are about 5 to 6 hours of instruction daily, divided into two sessions plus free practice time; for wingfoil events, there are up to 4 hours of training per day. The exact daily schedule depends on wind and tides—instruction takes place when conditions are best. On select evenings, a social program is held.
What’s included in the price of a KBC event?
The price of a KBC Kite Event includes: professional kitesurfing or wingfoil instruction for 6 days, one day of free practice time, a maximum of 6 students per instructor, free storage for your own equipment, a KBC Event Lycra top or T-shirt, and the active social program.
What is not included in the event price?
Not included in the event price are travel and flights, lodging, meals, and the costs for restaurant visits, BBQs, and parties as part of the social program. For kite events, kite equipment is also not included—it can be added as a gear upgrade package for the event week. For wingfoil events, however, gear is already included. We recommend that you have your own accident and personal liability insurance.
What’s included in the social program of a KBC event?
The social program includes group restaurant visits and excursions, such as a SUP tour—organized by the KBC team, though participants pay for their own food and drinks. In Sicily, a group dinner is a standard part of the event.
What happens at a KBC event if there’s no wind?
When there’s no wind, an alternative program takes place, which is included in the event price: theory sessions and equipment training, self-rescue training, stand-up paddling, snorkeling on the reefs, and wakeboarding—depending on the destination. No vouchers are issued for windless days during the events, as the event week is priced as a complete package. However, the KBC spots are among the most wind-reliable in the world.
What happens if there’s too much wind?
If gusts exceed 25 knots, lessons will be switched to theory, equipment instruction, and alternative activities, or rescheduled—for safety reasons and because the learning effect is minimal for beginners in strong winds.
What is the purpose of the free practice day?
The free practice day gives you time to reinforce what you’ve learned without an instructor and without time pressure—this is the step from “can do it with guidance” to “can do it on your own.” In Sicily, the open practice period begins at VDWS Level 4, since you must be able to handle the equipment independently at that level.
In which languages are classes taught at KBC events?
Instruction at KBC events is primarily in English. The instructor teams are international; it’s best to check directly with the center to see which languages are available for your desired date.
Equipment, License, and Safety
What equipment is used at KBC events?
All KBC centers use the latest equipment from the French brand F-ONE—Bandit kites ranging from 5 to 17 m², freeride, freestyle, and surfboards, as well as wings ranging from 2.5 to 7 m² with matching foils. The equipment pool is updated annually and maintained daily. Harnesses and wetsuits are from Prolimit, Manera, and Mystic.
Is the equipment included in the event price?
For wingfoil events, the equipment is included in the price—including the wing, board, foil, impact vest, and helmet. For kite events, the equipment is not included but can be booked as an equipment package for the entire event week. The necessary equipment is provided during the lessons themselves.
Can I bring my own equipment to a KBC event?
Yes, you can store your own equipment at the center free of charge for all KBC events—this is explicitly included in the event package. You should briefly discuss with the event organizers in advance—or email the respective center beforehand—to confirm whether the type and size of your equipment are suitable for the training.
What VDWS license do I need?
You don’t need a license to participate in an event—you can purchase or upgrade it on-site. For the El Gouna Kite Event, the VDWS license or upgrade is already included in the event price. For equipment rental after your event at the KBC, VDWS Level 4 is generally required for kitesurfing and VDWS Level 5 for wingfoiling.
Are the KBC centers certified?
The KBC centers are VDWS-licensed water sports centers—this applies to El Gouna, Ras Soma, Dakhla, New Spirit Dakhla, Sicily, Parajuru, and the locations in the Netherlands. The VDWS (Association of German Water Sports Schools) is the most widely used training system in German-speaking countries, with six levels; the license is mandatory at many spots worldwide and is a prerequisite for equipment rental practically everywhere.
Do I need insurance for a KBC event?
Adequate personal insurance—especially accident and personal liability insurance—is strongly recommended for all KBC events and, according to the Terms and Conditions, is the participant’s responsibility. During lessons, rental equipment is covered by the KBC. For independent training outside of lessons, New Spirit Dakhla also recommends the VDWS Safety Tool for €39 per year.
Will I be provided with a wetsuit, harness, and helmet?
Yes, a wetsuit, harness, leash, and—if needed—a helmet and impact protection vest are provided during lessons. For wingfoil events, the impact protection vest and helmet are explicitly included in the equipment provided; in Sicily, the helmet and impact protection vest are included in the event price as part of the rental service.
Where do the KBC events take place?
KBC events take place at five destinations: El Gouna on the Red Sea in Egypt, Dakhla in Morocco (with two centers on the east and west sides of the lagoon), Lo Stagnone in Sicily, Tarifa on Spain’s Costa de la Luz, and Parajuru on Brazil’s northeastern coast. Additional KBC centers in Ras Soma (Egypt), Brouwersdam, and Hindeloopen (Netherlands) offer courses and camps but do not host events listed on the event calendar.
Which KBC event is best for beginners?
Flat-water lagoons with standing depth are best for beginners—these include El Gouna, both Dakhla centers, and Lo Stagnone in Sicily. In these spots, you’ll be standing in waist-deep water and won’t have to deal with deep water or waves. El Gouna also has separate training and open areas on a lagoon spanning several square kilometers, which makes getting started particularly relaxed. Tarifa, with its wave-surfing spot, is more suited for beginners and intermediate riders.
When is the best time to visit the individual KBC spots?
The best time to visit varies by spot. El Gouna has reliable winds year-round, with a constant, gust-free side-onshore wind from the north-northwest. Dakhla’s peak season runs from April through September, with around 320 days of kiteable wind and typically 15 to 22 knots of northeast trade winds; waves also develop in October. Lo Stagnone in Sicily is in season from March 23 to November 21, with the best conditions from April to November, featuring up to 70% sideshore northwest winds and thermal gusts in the summer. Tarifa has reliable winds year-round, with the peak season from May to October; the Levante from the east brings flat water, while the Poniente from the west brings waves; both account for about 40% of the wind time each. Parajuru in Brazil is best from August through February; between June and January, wind reliability is over 70% with winds of 15 to 25 knots.
How warm is the water at the KBC event spots?
In Dakhla, the water temperature ranges from 17 to 19 °C from November through April (3/2-mm wetsuit required) and from 22 to 24 °C from May through October (shorty). In El Gouna, the water is pleasant in winter and warm in summer—a shorty or lycra suit is usually sufficient there. In Parajuru and Sicily, board shorts and a lycra top are sufficient in the summer; in Tarifa, a shorty is enough from June through September, while a wetsuit is required from October through May. Wetsuits are provided at all locations.
Are the KBC spots deep enough to stand in?
Yes, most KBC event spots are areas with standing depth and flat water. The Dakhla lagoon is about 40 km long and 4 km wide; at high tide, there’s a standing area up to 300 m wide with the finest sandy bottom. Lo Stagnone in Sicily is Europe’s largest standing area, with smooth water that’s no deeper than waist-deep. The El Gouna lagoon covers several square kilometers and is shallow enough to stand in, with a private beach over 800 m wide. In Parajuru, the lagoon is shallow near the shore and can be used for about four hours a day. Tarifa is a beach spot with waves, not a standing area.
How do I get to the KBC events?
All KBC event spots are located near an airport. You can reach El Gouna via Hurghada (HRG) in about 30 minutes; both Dakhla centers via Dakhla Airport (VIL) in 30 to 40 minutes; Lo Stagnone in Sicily via Trapani (TPS) in about 10 minutes, and Parajuru via Fortaleza (FOR) in about 90 minutes. Tarifa is 43 km from Gibraltar, 130 km from Jerez, and 152 km from Málaga. There are direct flights to Dakhla from Paris, Bordeaux, Marseille, and Madrid; from Germany, flights usually involve a layover in Casablanca, Marrakesh, or Agadir. Trapani and Palermo are served by direct flights from Ryanair and Wizz Air. All centers offer personalized airport shuttles through KBC Transfer.
Wingfoil Events
What is a KBC Wingfoil Event?
A KBC Wingfoil Event is a seven-day wingfoil training course consisting of 6 training days (up to 4 hours each) and one free practice day—including a full set of F-ONE equipment (wing, board, foil, impact vest, helmet), access to the training stations, and an event Lycra shirt. Wingfoil events are held in El Gouna as well as at both Dakhla centers. The maximum number of participants is 12, with one licensed wingfoil instructor supervising a maximum of 6 students.
Do I need prior experience for a Wingfoil event?
No, the KBC Wingfoil Events are designed for all skill levels—from complete beginners with no prior experience to riders who are already flying and working on jibes or tacking techniques. You should indicate your skill level when making a booking so that groups can be divided appropriately.
How much wind do you need for wingfoiling?
For wingfoiling, 8 to 10 knots is enough to get going; the wing stays stable in the air starting at about 5 knots. That’s significantly less than for kitesurfing and one of the reasons why wingfoiling works on light-wind days when kiting is no longer possible.
Is it worth switching from kiting to wingfoiling?
Experience shows that kitesurfers pick up wingfoiling quickly because they already have a good understanding of the wind, edge pressure, and upwind sailing—the real learning curve is mastering the foil. For kiters who want to get out on the water on light-wind days or are looking for a second string to their bow, wingfoil events are the perfect option; the equipment is included in the price, so you don’t need your own foil setup.
Girls Kiting & Yoga Camp Brazil
What is the Girls Kite & Yoga Camp?
The Girls Kite & Yoga Camp is a five-day women’s camp in Parajuru on Brazil’s northeast coast that combines kitesurfing with daily yoga sessions and a one-hour professional massage. There are three packages: beginners with 10 hours of instruction, advanced riders with 4 hours of instruction plus equipment, and independent kitesurfers with supervised kiting. All packages include a total of 5 hours of yoga and a 20% discount on rooms at the Pousada Maré Alta, located right at the spot.
Booking and Accommodations
Is accommodation included in the event price?
No, accommodation is not included in the price for regular KBC events—this gives you the flexibility to choose between a hostel and a hotel. We have a recommendation for each destination: Hotel Mosaique or Alu Pasha in the El Gouna marina, Hotel Dakhla Club with bungalows, a pool, and a hammam in Dakhla; the New Spirit Dakhla with 30 bungalows and lagoon views; Villa Baglio Vajarassa in Sicily; the High Flyers Guesthouse in Tarifa’s old town; and the Pousada Maré Alta right on the spot in Parajuru. The exception is the Sicily Kitesurfing Adventure Week, which includes accommodations.
Can I book flights, accommodations, and the event as a package?
Yes, through KBC partner agencies, you can put together a customized package including flights, accommodations, and water sports activities—plus additional services such as car rentals. KBC itself arranges water sports activities worldwide but is not a tour operator; the contract is concluded directly with the provider in each case. You can request a non-binding quote using the inquiry form.
How do I book a KBC event?
You can book KBC events online via this website under “Dates” using the KiteHub booking system.
When making a booking, please specify your kiting or wingfoiling skill level and your shirt size.
When do I need to pay for my KBC event?
Payment is due in advance online as a full or partial payment, in accordance with the Terms and Conditions, or alternatively in cash at the center on the first day; any outstanding invoices must be settled by 5:00 p.m. on the day of departure at the latest.
What are the cancellation policies for KBC events?
According to the KBC Terms and Conditions, tiered cancellation fees apply: 25% between 21 and 8 days before arrival, 50% between 8 days and 1 day before arrival, and 100% on the day of arrival or in case of no-show. The terms and conditions of the respective provider apply to accommodations and flights. Travel cancellation insurance is therefore recommended.
What is the KBC Friends Card?
The KBC Friends Card is the Kiteboarding Club’s loyalty program: Starting with your second visit, it offers a 10% discount on service and spot usage fees at all KBC Centers, discounts ranging from 5% to 20% at local partners such as restaurants and activity providers, as well as access to the exclusive KBC Friends section in the KBC online store with discounts of up to 50%. You can get the card at the reception desk of your center.
What should I bring to a KBC event?
Most importantly, you should bring sunscreen with a high SPF, sunglasses with a strap, swimwear, sturdy sandals or neoprene shoes, and your health insurance documents to a KBC event. All water sports equipment—including wetsuits, harnesses, and helmets—is provided; you can store your own gear at the center free of charge. A rental car is recommended for Sicily, as the villa is located about a 15-minute drive south of the spot.
