Pocket Wing & K-Wing at the Dakhla Lagoon

Wind sports continue to evolve—toward greater freedom, lighter gear, and a more direct connection to the water. The Pocket Wings Para Wing and K-Wing embody this new generation: intuitive, easy to use, and yet full of potential for adventure.

The Dakhla lagoon offers the perfect conditions for this. With consistent winds, vast stretches of flat water, and a length of around 40 km, it creates a unique playground for downwind adventures, exploration tours, and new riding sensations.

K-Wing & Parawing
— now at KBC Dakhla

The next level in your favorite water sports:

What happens when you combine the best of kites and wings? You get a whole new way to fly. With the F-ONE Wings Plume and Quest, we’re now offering rentals and training at KBC Dakhla in the two most exciting new water sports disciplines: K-Wing and Parawing.

No kite setup, no pumping, no space on the beach.

Unpack, launch, fly.

F-ONE Plume — K-Wing

Half kiting, half wing, completely different. The Plume is feather-light (starting at 700 g), fits in any backpack, and turns every downwind run into a freefly experience. No central strut, no cumbersome handling—just hold it in your hand and get going.

What makes the Plume special: it glides like a kite but steers as directly as a wing. The flying experience is unique—forward-oriented glide, extremely stable in the air, and with upwind angles that rival those of classic wings.

F-ONE Quest — Parawing

The Quest is the entry-level model for anyone who wants to enjoy downwind sailing in a relaxed and safe way. Even more compact, even lighter (starting at 340 g), with a dual dynamic bridle system that practically steers itself. Unpack it, get going, and ride the bumps.

Especially handy: the Pack Assist system. A quick pull on the front bridle—the Quest depoweres instantly and can be stowed away in seconds. No depower handle needed.

K-wing or pocket wing—what's the difference?

With the K-Wing and Pocket Wing, two new water sports disciplines are emerging that appear similar at first glance. Both are ultralight, fit in a backpack, and don’t require a traditional kite setup. The difference lies in the concept—and thus in what you’re looking for on the water.

K-Wing (F-ONE Plume)

The Plume is a hybrid of a kite and a wing—and thus something truly new. It features an inflatable C-shaped leading edge that provides stability and lift, but lacks a central strut like a classic wing. You hold it directly in your hand via a short vertical bar. Minimal bridles, no tangled lines, no harness required.

The flying sensation is reminiscent of a kite: forward-facing glide, consistent pull, extremely stable even in gusts. At the same time, it’s as directly controllable as a wing—powering up and depowering happens intuitively through arm position. The inflatable structure also serves as a float, making the Plume particularly safe, even offshore.

The Plume is suitable for all skill levels. Beginners benefit from its forgiving nature: the pull builds up gently, and it easily forgives mistakes. Experienced riders discover a new dimension of freefly—swell riding, downwind cruising, fast sessions in changing conditions.

Features: versatile, intuitive, forgiving
Wind range: wide, from 15 knots (5.0) to 40+ knots (2.5)
Available sizes: 2.5 – 5.0 m²
Weight: from 700 g to 1.11 kg
Plus: ideal for variable conditions and for riders looking to learn something new.
Suitable for: Freefly, downwind, swell riding

Pocket Wing (F-ONE Quest)

The Quest takes a different approach. It has no inflatable structure—the entire wing is soft, fully packable, and equipped with a dual dynamic bridle system that automatically adjusts the wing’s shape. The result: a wing that fits in your jacket pocket yet still offers precise control.

You can feel the difference from the Plume right away. The Quest reacts more dynamically, accelerates more directly, and has a noticeably different power delivery—less smooth glide, more immediate power when pumping and in the bumps. The dual bridle system ensures that power can be precisely controlled via the bar without the need for a separate depower handle. Instead, you simply give the front bridle a quick pull—the Quest depowers instantly and can be stowed away in seconds (Pack-Assist system).

The Quest is at its strongest on long downwind runs with consistent wind. If you want to tackle bumps, cover distance with ease, and prioritize maximum compactness, this is the right kite for you. The learning curve is slightly more technical than with the Plume, but quickly manageable for beginners with kite or wing experience.

Features: ultra-compact, dynamic
Wind range: excellent low-end (from 11 knots with a 6.0) up to 28+ knots (2.0)
Available sizes: 2.0 – 6.0 m²
Weight: from 340 g to 700 g
Plus: Pack Assist for instant stowage & ideal for relaxed downwinders and bump riding
Suitable for: Beginners and advanced riders, downwind, pocket winging

What is the key difference?

The Plume flies—the Quest pulls. The Plume gives you a floating, kite-like glide sensation that is consistent and predictable. The Quest delivers direct, dynamic pull that you can actively use in the bumps. Thanks to its inflatable structure, the Plume offers greater inherent stability and safety. The Quest, with its soft construction, is more compact and versatile for storage, but requires more finesse in handling.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pocket Wing & K-Wing at the Dakhla Lagoon

What exactly is K-Wing?

K-Wing is a new water sports discipline that combines elements of kitesurfing and wingfoiling. Instead of a classic kite or a wing with struts, you hold an ultra-light inflatable structure (the F-ONE Plume) directly in your hand. It glides like a kite but is as easy to handle as a wing—no lines, no bar, and no complicated setup on the beach.

What is the difference between the K-Wing and the Pocket Wing?

The K-Wing (Plume) has an inflatable leading edge, is forgiving, and suitable for all skill levels. The Pocket Wing (Frigate) has no rigid structure at all, is even more compact, but more technical to handle and designed for downwind performance. K-Wing = versatile and safe, Pocket Wing = minimalist and fast.

Do I need prior experience in kitesurfing or wingfoiling?

Not strictly necessary for the K-Wing (Plume)—it’s so intuitive that even beginners can get up and going quickly. Basic board feel (surfing, SUP, wakeboarding) helps. For the Pocket Wing (Frigate), F-ONE recommends being able to ride several hundred meters of freefly course independently.

What board do you use with the K-Wing or Pocket Wing?

Typically, a foilboard. The foil generates the necessary lift so that the comparatively low pull of the lightweight wings is sufficient. At KBC Dakhla, we provide suitable foilboards for rental.

How much wind do I need?

The K-Wing Plume works from about 15 knots (in the 5.0 size). The Pocket Wing Frigate has even better low-end performance. In Dakhla, winds consistently range from 18–25 knots between April and November—making conditions ideal almost every day.

Is K-Wing/Pocket Wing dangerous?

Significantly less so than traditional kitesurfing. There are no long lines, no uncontrolled kite loops, and the wing cannot pull you upward unintentionally. The Plume has an inflatable structure that acts as a float. The pulling force is lower and more directly controllable. Nevertheless: instruction from our instructors is required.

Can I rent K-Wing and Pocket Wing gear at KBC Dakhla?

Yes. We have the F-ONE Plume and Quest in various sizes on-site. Just add them to your rental booking, attend the briefing, and head out onto the water. You’re also welcome to bring your own equipment, of course.

Does KBC Dakhla also offer courses?

Yes—both beginner courses and coaching for advanced riders. Our certified instructors will guide you from your first few meters to independent downwind runs on the lagoon.

How long will it take before I can ride on my own?

Most kiters and wingfoilers with prior experience are confidently on the foil with the K-Wing after one session (2–3 hours). Complete beginners typically need 2–3 sessions to master the basics. Dakhla’s flat water and consistent wind significantly speed up the learning process.

Why is Dakhla particularly well-suited for the K-Wing and Pocket Wing?

Three reasons: First, the 40-km-long lagoon with consistent sideshore wind—perfect for long downwind runs. Second, standing depth over long stretches—safe for beginners, comfortable for everyone. Third, the unique landscape: downwind tours take you past Dragon Island, to the Secret Spot, and all the way to the White Dune, where the Sahara and the Atlantic meet.

What routes can I take from the station?

From KBC Dakhla, downwind runs start along the entire lagoon. Popular destinations include Dragon Island (a striking rocky island in the lagoon), the Secret Spot (a secluded shallow-water area), and the White Dune at the southern end. Depending on the wind and your skill level, tours ranging from 5 to over 30 km are possible.

When is the best season for K-Wing in Dakhla?

The main wind season in Dakhla runs from April to November, with the most consistent conditions between June and September. But even outside the peak season, there are regularly rideable days. Water temperatures range between 18 and 24 °C year-round.

What do I need to bring?

Basically just yourself, sunscreen, and a wetsuit (a shorty is usually enough). We provide all the equipment—board, foil, wing. If you have your own gear, you’re welcome to use it.

Can I ride the K-Wing without foiling?

In principle, yes—on a directional board or a large twin tip. But the foil makes all the difference: it generates the lift that really gets the lightweight wings flying. Without a foil, you need significantly more wind and lose the gliding sensation that defines K-winging.

Are there any weight or age restrictions?

No fixed limits. The wings come in sizes from 2.0 to 6.0 m², allowing the setup to be adjusted to body weight and wind strength. Children aged 12 and up (with board sports experience) can get started under supervision. Our instructors provide personalized guidance.

Are there guided tours?

Yes, KBC Dakhla offers guided downwind sessions to the most famous spots in the lagoon. As an experienced K-wing and pocket-wing rider, you’re also welcome to join.
