For many parents who enjoy kiteboarding and wingfoiling, gliding across the water with their child is the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream. However, to ensure that this dream becomes a safe and enjoyable reality, the training must not be simply a "miniature version of adult training." Children learn differently—more intuitively, more playfully, and with a different focus. This is precisely what KBC's professional training methodology stands for.
At KBC schools, your child can learn kitesurfing, wingfoiling, or windsurfing safely and enjoyably.

Our VDWS-certified instructors speak the language of kids—with patience, fun, and maximum safety.

The moment that changes everything
You remember the feeling. The first time the kite pulled you across the water. Or the first time the wing built up pressure and your foilboard gently lifted you out of the water?
The exhilaration, the freedom, the absolute presence in that moment. Now imagine your child experiencing exactly the same thing—and then telling you about it with shining eyes.
This is not a dream. This is what happens when children learn in the right environment—with patience, safety, and the kind of encouragement that allows them to grow at their own pace.
More than a sport—a common language
Kitesurfing and wingfoiling give families something rare: a passion that can truly be shared across generations. Not from the sidelines. Not watching from the beach. But riding together, reading the same wind, chasing the same feeling.
Children who learn to kitesurf or wingfoil develop coordination, self-confidence, and a deep respect for nature. They learn to assess conditions, be patient, and trust themselves. These are skills that extend far beyond the water.
At KBC World, we see it every season: the quiet pride in a child's eyes after their first water start. The moment a parent realizes that their son or daughter can keep up. The family that arrives as individuals and leaves as a crew.
That's why we do it.
How we teach your child
Our approach differs fundamentally from adult teaching:
✔︎ Shorter, focused units
The training sessions are tailored to your child's attention span and energy level.
✔︎ Playful learning sequences
Technique is transformed into intuitive discovery.
✔︎ Individual pace
No child is pushed to reach milestones for which they are not yet ready.
✔︎ Positive reinforcement
Instead of correction, build confidence step by step.
✔︎ One-on-one training
Every child receives personal attention.
We believe in progress without pressure. Children progress when they are ready—and this readiness is different for every young rider.
VDWS-certified instructors – trained for young riders
KBC World instructors hold VDWS licenses—the standard set by the Association of German Water Sports Schools, which is recognized throughout the industry. But certification alone is not enough. Our kids' instructors are specifically selected for their ability to connect with young learners. They combine technical expertise with patience, empathy, and the ability to teach complex movements in a playful way.
Each lesson follows a structured progression, adapted to the child's age, physical abilities, and self-confidence.
Premium F-ONE Kids Equipment
Equipment is crucial—especially for children. We use F-ONE kites, wings, and boards in the smallest sizes: specially developed material for lighter body weight, smaller hands, and developing strength.
- Small kite sizes with adjusted, reduced power for safe, controlled learning
- Lightweight boards that are easy to handle in the water and on land
- Custom-fit harnesses – designed for children's proportions
Equipment designed from the ground up for young riders.
Our security concept
Safety is not a feature—it is the foundation upon which everything else is built.
✔︎ Carefully selected training spots
with flat, smooth water and consistent wind
✔︎ Low-traffic zones
separated from advanced riders
✔︎ Maximum supervision ratios – one instructor supervises one child
✔︎ Weather and condition analysis before each session
✔︎ Comprehensive safety briefing before a child touches any equipment
✔︎ Emergency protocols – rehearsed and ready to go at every location
Not every beach is suitable for children. We have selected the locations in our network for their ideal learning conditions: shallow water, reliable wind, warm climate, and the kind of environment where young riders thrive. Whether kitesurfing or wingfoiling, your child will be well looked after and safe at KBC stations.

Age & Requirements
Starting age – is your child ready to learn kiting or wingfoiling? 🔗
We get asked this question every day – and we always give an honest answer: it depends on the child. Our children's courses are designed for children aged approximately 10 to 14, but age alone does not determine readiness. Some 8-year-olds are focused, physically strong, and eager to learn. Some 12-year-olds need a little more time. Both are perfectly fine.
What is more important than age:
✔︎ Attention and concentration
Lessons require focus and the ability to follow instructions. Children who can concentrate for 1-2 hours at a time are usually ready.
✔︎ Motivation
The child should really want to try kitesurfing, wingfoiling, or windsurfing themselves—and not just come along because their parents love the sport.
What your child does NOT need:
✘ Previous experience in water sports
✘ A sporting background
✘ Any prior knowledge of kitesurfing or wingfoiling
We start from scratch. Every child begins with training on land, safety basics, and kiting control before even going near the water.
If you are unsure whether your child is ready, please contact us. We will have an honest conversation about it—because realistic expectations from the outset are part of what makes our courses so successful.
KBC Children's Courses
The kitesurfing course for children
In the children's course, your child will receive individual instruction. The content is similar to that of a basic course for adults, but the teaching methods, methodology, and pace are tailored to your child:

- Flying exercises with the trainer kite
- Launching the kite in the water
- Body drags
- Water start with the board
- First few meters sailed on a downwind course
How many hours your child needs to learn the basics depends on their own learning pace. We initially offer children's courses lasting 4-6 hours, spread over 2-3 sessions of a maximum of 2 hours each.
Kids' wingfoil course
The wingfoil course for children
In the children's wingfoil course, your child will receive individual one-on-one training. The course content is based on the adult course, but is tailored to your child in terms of scope, teaching methods, and learning pace.
Contents of the "Wingfoil" children's course:
- Brief theory, materials science, and setup
- Practice: Exercises with the wing on land
- Handling the wing and board (without foil) in the water
- Flying exercises, first few meters on your knees, later standing up
- Exercises: riding courses, gaining height
- Possible and optional technique: taking off with the foil
How many hours your child needs to learn the basics depends on their learning speed. We offer courses with 4-6 lessons.

At our center in Holland, the kids play at the campsite, on the beach, or on the dike after training.
...while you enjoy another kite or wingfoil session.
Frequently asked questions about kitesurfing & wingfoil courses for children
At what age can children start kitesurfing or wingfoiling?
Most children are ready between the ages of 10 and 14, depending on their physical development, weight, and ability to concentrate. Wingfoiling may be accessible a little earlier due to the lower forces involved. We assess each child individually before the course begins and recommend the best option based on their profile.
Is kitesurfing safe for children?
Yes—when taught correctly, with the right equipment, under the right conditions, and by qualified instructors. At KBC World, our children's courses are built around safety: VDWS-certified instructors, flat water training spots, premium F-ONE Kids equipment, and strict supervision ratios. We do not compromise on safety and do not skip steps in the learning progression.
Does my child need previous experience?
No, no previous experience is necessary. Our kitesurfing and wingfoiling courses for children start with the absolute basics—wind theory, safety rules, kite handling on the beach—and build on these step by step. Many of the children in our courses have never touched a kite before.
Private lessons or group lessons?
For safety reasons, we only offer one-on-one instruction for children under 14. Private lessons offer the fastest progression and the most individual attention.
Which KBC location is best for children?
All of the KBC locations selected here offer suitable conditions for children. El Gouna and Dakhla stand out for their warm water and extensive flat water areas. Ras Soma offers a particularly calm, uncrowded environment. Brouwersdam and Hindeloopen are excellent options for families in Northern Europe who prefer shorter travel distances.
What are good kite and wingfoil spots for kids?
The wingfoil or kite beach plays a crucial role. The water should be pleasantly warm, as children get cold more quickly: in a warm wetsuit, the water temperature should not be colder than 18°C, but preferably warmer. The ground should be sandy or loamy, but not stony – to avoid injuries.
The spot should also not be too crowded. Nothing is more annoying than having to constantly watch out for other kiters and wingfoilers while learning a new sport.
How much wind is needed for teaching children?
Wind strengths of 11 to 16 knots are ideal for beginners. The wind should be constant and not gusty. At our KBC spots, you will find ideal conditions for your child's kitesurfing or wingfoil course.
What equipment does my child need to bring?
Nothing except swimwear, sunscreen, and enthusiasm. All technical equipment—kites, boards, harnesses, helmets, and impact vests—is provided by KBC World. We use premium F-ONE Kids equipment, which is specially designed for young riders.
How long does it take for a child to learn kitesurfing?
Every child learns at their own pace. Most children gain basic kiting control within 2–3 hours of instruction and can attempt their first water starts within 6–10 hours, depending on conditions and individual learning speed. We focus on solid foundations rather than rushed milestones.
Can I take lessons at the same time as my child?
Absolutely. Many parents book their own sessions alongside their child's course. This is one of the things that makes KBC World special—families can learn and ride together, each at their own level.
Will my child have fun in the kids' course?
A very important aspect of the practical part of the course for kids is the fun factor, which is essential. This is the only way to ensure a joyful introduction to the new sport. Experience shows that children learn very quickly, which, combined with the safety and fun of the KBC course, leads to lasting learning success. The KBC teaching team is specially trained to teach children.
