The water-based part of the course is conducted in 3 hours of one-on-one instruction for safety reasons – either in 1.5-hour or 1-hour sessions per day.

Good to know

Starting age
When a child is ready to learn kitesurfing depends on their development and readiness. They need to have good concentration skills, good body awareness and balance, and of course the desire to learn kitesurfing. It is also essential that the child is a confident swimmer. They should be able to stay afloat for 15 minutes without any problems. When these requirements are met depends entirely on the individual child. In exceptional cases, an 8-year-old child may be able to meet them, but otherwise it is more likely to be a 10-year-old. We are happy to discuss this in advance by email, phone, or in person.

Weight
Children's lessons are for children weighing between approximately 35kg and 50kg.

Special
feature Children's training is not the same as adult training, but differs fundamentally in terms of equipment, methodology, and requirements for the area: Equipment Kitesurfing lessons for children are conducted with equipment specially designed for children, i.e., small, balanced kites, small bars and small boards, and small, comfortable harnesses. Weight plays a role in the choice of equipment.

Methodology The
teaching model must also be tailored to children in general, but also to the child's specific stage of development (ability to concentrate, physical condition). This means shorter lessons and very visual learning models in the training theory. In the practical part, safety and fun are the main focus: we only teach children in individual lessons to guarantee maximum safety for our young kite students. The kite instructor's attention is 100% on the child. This allows the learning pace to be optimally adapted to the child, which promotes and prolongs the child's interest and ability to concentrate. The second, very important aspect of the practical part is fun, which must be conveyed at all costs. This is the only way to ensure a joyful introduction to the new sport. Experience shows that children learn very quickly, which, thanks to the safety and fun of the KBC course, leads to lasting learning success. The KBC teaching team is specially trained to teach children.

The area
The kitesurfing area plays a crucial role. The water should be pleasantly warm, as children tend to feel the cold more quickly: in thick neoprene, the water temperature should not be colder than 18°C, but preferably warmer. The ground should be sandy or loamy, and under no circumstances should there be stones to avoid injuries. Wind strengths of 11 to 16 knots are ideal. Our learning areas at Brouwersdam offer good conditions for teaching children.

We only teach children in one-to-one lessons to ensure maximum safety for our young kite students at the kite school.
