The KBC Water Sports Center

KBC Ras Soma has established its new water sports base in Ras Soma Bay, around 800 meters below the hotel's beach area, in cooperation with the Steigenberger Resort. This enchanting region, located near Soma Bay in Egypt, is a dream destination approximately 30 minutes south of Hurghada Airport.

The center's wingfoil facility is located directly on the beach at Steigenberger Ras Soma. For you, that means no traveling, no waiting—just start from the hotel and glide into the turquoise waves of the beautiful Soma Bay.

Revier & Wind

A constant north wind blows in the large bay, which is further strengthened by the nearby Red Sea, making the area very wind-safe and offering beautiful flat water conditions. Even in strong winds, the water in the bay remains relatively calm, providing good learning and practice conditions for freestyle and maneuver training. Wingfoilers also get their money's worth here.

The water in the shore and entry area is quite extensive, but so shallow that you can't wing or kite there at first. Only a little further out in the deep water is training and riding possible. That's why we only offer courses with a maximum of 2 people.

At the KBC Center, the wind blows from side-offshore, seasonally also from side-shore directions, but only blows about a kilometer over the sea before it hits the KBC Center and is then constant and unvortexed. The KBC has several boats in use – to support training and for the safety of kiters and wingfoilers.

Ras Somas Bay captivates visitors with its long beaches and beautiful turquoise-blue, crystal-clear water. Thanks to its excellent conditions, the area has become a mecca for water sports enthusiasts. This popular holiday destination is flourishing and well on its way to becoming the next flagship on Egypt's east coast.

In the coming years, a visionary project will be realized here, transforming the land between the Steigenberger Hotel and the KBC Water Sports Center into a diverse landscape of lively marinas, lagoons, tasteful residential parks and villas, and 1-2 small hotels surrounded by lush gardens.

Downwind trip

Kite or wing foil with us to "Utopia Island," about 2.5 km south of our center. We'll head to the small island in Soma Bay—a beautiful backdrop for our BBQ with drinks. We start the trip about once a week when the wind is right and there are at least 3 participants—also interesting for groups of up to 15 people. Book your downwind trip on site.

There's no chance of boredom when it comes to food either, as there are culinary highlights to suit every taste: at lunchtime, you can choose between the buffet in the main building, the beach restaurant, or the Italian restaurant with its open kitchen. In the evening, there is a buffet in the main building or à la carte dining in the four themed restaurants: seafood, Lebanese, Asian, or Italian. Later, everyone meets at the Safari Bar. Action is guaranteed at the Kids Club. The same goes for the daily entertainment program with yoga, Latin dance, and beach volleyball. Those looking for even more sporting challenges can head to the tennis court, the gym, or, better still, the KBC water sports center for kitesurfing or wingfoiling.

Shuttle to the water sports beach

You can reach the water sports center from the Steigenberger Resort by shuttle bus. The shuttle bus departs every hour on the hour from 9 a.m. in front of the hotel entrance. The shuttle bus ride is free of charge.

Shuttle for guests from Soma Bay / North Safaga

If you are staying at a hotel in Soma Bay or North Safaga (e.g., in Soma Bay at the Breakers, Sheraton, Robinson, Cascades, Kempinski, or others, including apartments, or in North Safaga at the Palm Royale, Solymar, Caribbean World, Paradise, Movabic, Imperial, or others), we will be happy to arrange a taxi shuttle for you:

Simply call the KBC Ras Soma reception (at least 45-60 minutes in advance) and we will arrange your shuttle.
The KBC cooperates with a taxi service from Safaga. Your driver will pick you up from your hotel at the agreed time and drive you to the KBC Center. The cost is €10 per trip/car. Please pay for the taxi ride directly at the KBC reception.
