KBC Ras Soma is the water sports center of Steigenberg Resort and is located about 1km south of the hotel on the wide sandy beach with a magnificent view of the turquoise waters and Soma Bay. The sheltered location in the bay provides beautiful shallow water conditions. Beginners learn in small groups of maximum 2 persons and with the support of the boats, with the wind blowing mostly diagonally offshore.
The VDWS-trained teaching team of the KBC provides safe, high-quality instruction. First-class kite-, kitefoil and wingfoil equipment of the premium brand F-ONE is waiting in the rental. Rent a single kitefoil board or complete kitesurfing equipment with kitefoil board. The area is ideal for kiteboarding. If you are not sure yet, we recommend an hour of private instruction.

Storage, Service & Beach Use
As a kitesurfer at the KBC kite beach, you register in advance at the reception. In return, you benefit from the use of the centre's complete infrastructure and service. Unfortunately, we do not have unlimited capacity and therefore recommend that you book in advance.
Security
The lifeboats will help you within a few minutes if you can no longer go upwind, to recover your kite or board or with other problems in deep water.

Downwind Trip
Kite or wingfoil with us to ‘Utopia Island’ about 2.5 km south of our centre. We kitesurf or wingfoil downwind to the small island in the bay of Soma Bay – a wonderful backdrop for our BBQ with drinks. We start the trip about once a week when the wind is right and there is a minimum of 3 participants - also interesting for groups with a maximum of 15 people. Book your downwind trip on site.

The KBC water sports center
In cooperation with the Steigenberger Resort, the KBC has opened its new water sports base some 800 metres below the hotel's beach area, in Ras Soma Bay. An enchanting region, neighbouring Soma Bay in Egypt, a dream area located around 30 minutes south of Hurghada airport.

The bay of Ras Soma
The bay of Ras Somas impresses with its long beaches and the wonderfully turquoise, crystal-clear water. Due to the excellent conditions, the area has become a mecca for water sports enthusiasts. The popular holiday destination is flourishing and is well on its way to becoming the next flagship on Egypt's east coast.
In the coming years, a visionary project will take shape here, developing the land between the Steigenberger Hotel and the KBC Watersports Centre into a diverse landscape of lively marinas, lagoons, tasteful residential parks and villas and 1-2 small hotels set amidst lush gardens.

Spot & Wind
A constant north wind blows in the large bay, which is reinforced by the nearby Red Sea, so that the area is very wind-safe and offers beautiful flat water conditions. Even in strong winds, the water in the bay remains relatively calm and thus offers good learning and practice conditions for freestyle and maneuver training.
Wingfoilers will also have great conditions. The water in the bank and entry area is quite extensive, but so shallow that you can neither swing nor kite there at first. Training and riding is only possible a little further out in deep water. Therefore we only offer courses with a maximum of 2 people.
At the KBC Center the wind blows from side-offshore, seasonally also side-shore directions, but first blows about a kilometer over the sea before it hits the KBC Center and is then constant and undisturbed. KBC has several boats in use - to support the training and to ensure the safety of the kiters and wingfoilers.

In the evening there is a buffet in the main building or à la carte meals in the four themed restaurants: Seafood, Lebanese, Asian or Italian. Later we meet at the Safari Bar. Action is guaranteed in the Kids Club. Likewise with the daily animation with yoga, Latin dance and beach volleyball. Shuttle to the watersports beach
You can reach the water sports base by shuttle bus. It leaves every hour on the hour from 9 am in front of the hotel entrance. The shuttle bus ride is free of charge.

Wind
At the KBC Center the wind blows from side-offshore, seasonally also side-shore directions, but first blows about one kilometer across the sea before it hits the KBC Center and is then constant and unvortexed. The KBC has several boats in operation - to assist with training and for the safety of the kiters and wingfoilers.
We have had the best experience with Windguru 's wind forecast. The "modified wind" or the indicated gusts predict the actual wind most accurately.
Weather
In spring and autumn we recommend a shorty, in summer you can kitesurf only in boardshorts and lycra. But you should always think of very good, waterproof sun protection.
In the winter months (December to February) there are more strong and light wind days - the wind is not as constant as in the other months. We recommend long neoprene clothing in winter. The air temperatures are still mild during the day, but at the latest when the sun goes down it gets fresh. Therefore, pack warm long clothes and also a hat when you come from the water.

Ras Soma is very easy and inexpensive to reach from Central Europe. The nearest airport "Hurghada" is served by almost all major airports in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, e.g. Condor, TUIFly, SunExpress, Germania, AirCairo, FlyEgypt and Eurowings. The flight time is about 4-5 hours.
From Hurghada to Ras Soma, the journey takes about 30 minutes.
The shuttle from Steigenberger Hotel to the centre
The water sports centre is located south of the Steigenberger Resort on the beach, about 1 km away. You can walk this distance or take the shuttle bus, which departs every hour on the hour from 9 a.m. in front of the hotel entrance. The shuttle bus journey is free of charge.
