Individual Training

Kitesurf, Wingfoil & Windsurf Rental

We will meet at 9:30 a.m. on your first rental day to register at the KBC Center at the Hindeloopen campsite. 

At around 10 a.m., we will drive to the spot together. You will ride at the spot where the training courses take place. Hand pumps are available at the spot. If conditions change, you can change your equipment as soon as a kite or wingfoil instructor is on shore. 

However, you can also go to a spot of your choice. We will then hand over the equipment to you at the center before 10 a.m. However, this means that you will not be able to change equipment.

Rent kites and boards

At KBC, you can rent the latest kitesurfing equipment from F-ONE. Reserve in advance and you will always have the right equipment, even if you need to change several times a day.

Our school in Hindeloopen

This is where all kitesurfing, wingfoiling, and windsurfing courses and rentals start.

The KBC Watersports School is located at the Hindeloopen campsite. Here you will find the office, the shop, our training rooms, and the rental service. 

On your first course/rental day, you start at 9:30 a.m. by registering at the station, where a warm coffee will be waiting for you. We start promptly at 10 a.m. The theory session takes place here at our school, right at the center. You will be provided with a wetsuit. Depending on the wind direction, we decide which spot we will teach at.
If we don't stay in Hindeloopen, it's best to drive your own car. We will be at the spot with our bus and have the equipment ready for you.

Where we kitesurf and wingfoil

The IJsselmeer is the most wind-protected inland sea in Central Europe with almost endless standing area: 1,100 square kilometers of the finest flat water! A big advantage of our location is that there is no wind direction that is not suitable for kitesurfing. You will learn safely in standing area that is no deeper than hip-deep with a soft surface.

To make your first kitesurfing experiences truly unforgettable, we teach at one of our three nearby home spots: Hindeloopen, Mirns, or Workum. Our mobile strategy guarantees you stable IJsselmeer winds, always from the optimal wind direction. We choose the spot that is not too crowded. We can set up the equipment right by the water at all beaches.

VDWS Kitesurf License Watersports Training

VDWS license

KBC Holland is a VDWS-certified water sports school. As part of your course, you can take the VDWS exam (not included): Your instructor will test your theoretical knowledge, assess your riding skills, and determine your riding level. With your VDWS license, you can also rent equipment at other centers.

To rent equipment, you should have a VDWS license with a minimum level of 3 for kitesurfing or level 5 for wingfoiling. If you don't have a license yet, you can take the exam with us.

We train kite and wingfoil instructors, only hire instructors with a VDWS license, and teach according to VDWS standards.

  • Cycling and exploring the surrounding area with bikes from the campsite's bike rental service, with possible destinations including:
  • Pitch & Putt: a simple and fun variation of golf, just a 4-minute drive away in Koudum
  • The idyllic harbor of Hindeloopen with traditional flat-bottomed boats
  • The Nylander cheese factory: exciting and delicious, just 1 km from the kite school
  • The Kornwederzand Casemate Museum on the closing dike
  • Art in Workum at the Jopie Huisman Museum

There is a mini market at the Hindeloopen campsite. Here you can buy fresh bread rolls, vegetables, fruit, regional products, and barbecue meat. The store works with the local baker, so there are always fresh baked goods available.
If we are at the kite spot in Mirns, you can buy soup, Strammen Max, fries, and waffles at the Mirnser Klif café.

Wind & Weather

wind statistics

The IJsselmeer is one of the windiest inland seas in Northern Europe, with an average wind probability of over 50%. It impresses with its huge standing areas offering plenty of space. Depending on the wind direction, we teach at one of our three nearby spots. Our mobile strategy guarantees you stable IJsselmeer winds always from the right direction. There is plenty of space on all beaches, so we can always set up the equipment right by the water. Even though some people are not bothered by the cold and go out on the water in just board shorts in summer, we always recommend a long wetsuit.

A great spot for kitesurfing. The campsite has everything you need and appears well-maintained. The support for kitesurfing was also good. The equipment was decent and there was a sufficient amount, and the instructor was calm and competent. I'd be happy to come back.

Arrival

Unfortunately, it is not quite as easy to get there by public transport and takes at least twice as long. We therefore recommend that you travel by private car. 

Arriving from southern and western Germany: Take the A3 towards Arnhem. After Arnhem, follow the A50 towards Appeldorn. The A50 becomes the N50 and then the A6. Leave the highway at the Lemmer exit and take the N 359 towards Bolsward. You will pass through Lemmer, Balk, and Koudum. Then turn left towards Hindeloopen. Follow the signs to "Camping Hindeloopen."

Arriving from northern Germany Hamburg - Bremen - Oldenburg: Take the A28 towards Leer E35, N7 towards Groningen, follow the A7 via Herrenveen to Lemmer. Leave the highway there and follow the N359 towards Balk Stavoren, Koudum until you see a sign for Hindeloopen. Then turn left towards Hindeloopen. Follow the signs to "Camping Hindeloopen."

Camping in Hindeloopen

At Camping Hindeloopen, you will be staying right behind the dike in Hindeloopen. Choose between a campsite, mobile homes, bungalows, and wooden cabins at the campsite. In addition to water sports, you can play tennis and go SUPing on the canals. There is a large playground and soccer field for children. Dogs are not allowed at the campsite. Our windsurfing school
