Wingfoil courses for children at KBC Dakhla

We only offer private lessons to children under the age of 14 in order to guarantee maximum safety. The instructor's attention is focused 100% on the child. This allows the learning pace to be optimally adapted to the child, which promotes and prolongs the child's interest and ability to concentrate.

Shorter lessons and highly visual learning models make the training child-friendly.
The practical part focuses on safety and fun.

Choose between our 4-hour and 6-hour children's courses:
Younger children and children with no previous sporting experience (e.g., in stunt kite flying or board sports) should choose the 6-hour course.

Please note: Depending on the individual learning pace, it may be necessary for safety reasons that your child is not yet able to continue training independently after the course. In this case, we recommend additional practice sessions to consolidate the procedures and enable safe, independent training.

Training kids at KBC Dakhla

Starting age

When a child is ready to learn wingfoiling depends on their individual development and readiness. They need good concentration skills, good body awareness and balance, and of course the desire to learn a new type of water sports. It is also essential that the child can swim confidently. They should be able to stay afloat for 15 minutes without any problems.

The good news is that wingfoiling generates significantly less force than kitesurfing. There is no kite that can pull uncontrollably – the child holds the wing in their hands and can simply let go of it at any time. This makes it safer to get started and often allows children to start earlier. In exceptional cases, 8-year-olds can already meet the requirements, but as a rule, children should be at least 10 years old. We are happy to discuss this in advance by email, on the phone, or on site.

Special feature

Children's training is not the same as adult training, but differs fundamentally in terms of equipment, methodology, and the requirements of the area.

Equipment

Wingfoil lessons for children are conducted with equipment specially designed for children: small, lightweight wings that are easy for children's hands to grip and control, short boards with plenty of volume for a secure footing, and child-friendly foils with an adapted wing area. The child's weight plays a decisive role in the choice of equipment. We start without a foil on a wide board so that the child first learns how to handle the wing before switching to the foilboard.

Methodology

The teaching model must also be tailored to children in general, but also to the child's specific stage of development – concentration, fitness, sense of balance. This means shorter lessons and very visual learning models in theory. In the practical part, safety and fun are the main focus: we only teach children in one-on-one lessons to guarantee maximum safety. The instructor's attention is 100% on the child. This allows the learning pace to be optimally adjusted, which promotes and prolongs the child's interest and ability to concentrate.

The second, very important aspect is fun, which must be conveyed at all costs. This is the only way to ensure a joyful introduction to the sport. Experience shows that children learn very quickly – and with wingfoiling in particular, the sense of achievement often comes earlier than with kitesurfing because the technique is more intuitive and the wing provides immediate feedback. The KBC teaching team is specially trained to teach children.

The area

The area plays a crucial role. The water should be pleasantly warm, as children tend to feel the cold more quickly: in neoprene, the water temperature should not be colder than 18 °C, and preferably warmer. The ground should be sandy, not stony, to avoid injuries – this is particularly important in wingfoiling, as beginners often fall off the board into the water. The wind should be stable and not gusty. Wingfoiling requires less wind than kitesurfing: conditions are already good for children at 10 to 15 knots. The water should be as smooth as possible and not wavy so that the foil can work evenly.

Our learning area in Dakhla offers very good conditions for teaching children wingfoiling.
