We answer your questions about kitesurfing and wingfoiling at KBC Holland.

When and where does the course start?

Unless otherwise agreed, we’ll meet at 9:30 a.m. on the first day of the event. The course starts promptly at 10 a.m.

All windsurfing, kitesurfing, and wingfoil courses start at the Hindeloopen campsite, right behind the dike.

Can I participate without any prior experience?

Yes. Our courses are specifically designed for beginners. Experience with board sports can be helpful, but it’s not a requirement. We’ll guide you through the sport step by step.

How large are the groups in the courses?

We deliberately work in small groups so that every participant gets enough time with the equipment. Safety, clarity, and personal coaching are our top priorities.

How long does a course day last?

Scheduled to end around 6 p.m. Depending on the wind, the day may end earlier or be extended until sunset. Since we’re wind-dependent, you should avoid scheduling other commitments on your course day if possible.

What are the prerequisites for a course?

You should be able to swim and have a normal level of basic fitness. Special strength or prior experience is not necessary. What’s important is motivation, attention, and a love of learning.

How quickly can you learn kitesurfing?

This varies from person to person and depends on the wind, your concentration, and any previous board sports experience. Many participants are able to make their first longer runs after several days of lessons. Our goal is to get you out on the water safely and in control.

Why is the IJsselmeer a good spot for learning?

The IJsselmeer offers plenty of space, often consistent wind conditions, and large standing areas. This combination makes learning easier for beginners while also allowing for advanced training.

What happens if there’s no wind?

If there really isn’t enough wind, you’ll receive a credit for the unused services. You can redeem this credit at any other KBC World Center worldwide.

I have to cancel my course at the last minute—what happens?

If you are unable to attend your pre-booked course, please let us know as soon as possible. This gives us the chance to potentially fill your spot with someone else. The following cancellation policy applies:
Cancellation is free of charge up to 7 days before the scheduled start of the course.
For cancellations made 6 to 1 day before the course starts, we charge 50% of the course price.
If you do not show up on the day of the course, 100% of the course price will be charged.

Does the course take place even if it rains?

Rain alone is not a problem. The decisive factors are the wind and safety at the spot. In the event of a thunderstorm or weather conditions that pose a safety risk, we will suspend the lesson.

Can I bring my own kite or wing?

Yes, you’re welcome to use your own gear. Our instructors will briefly check beforehand to make sure your equipment is suitable for your skill level and the current conditions.

Which certification systems are used?

Training is conducted according to VDWS standards. Depending on the course, you can have your level certified or obtain a corresponding license.

How cold is the water in the IJsselmeer?

Temperatures vary greatly depending on the season. In spring and fall, we recommend a thicker wetsuit. In summer, conditions are significantly warmer. We provide you with the appropriate equipment.

Are there facilities like showers or changing rooms?

Sanitary facilities, showers, and amenities are available at the campground. After the course, you can change or relax right on site.

Can I come along as an accompanying person?

Accompanying guests are always welcome. Lessons can be observed from the beach, while the surrounding area offers numerous recreational opportunities.

What is the difference between wingfoiling and kitesurfing?

In wingfoiling, you steer a wing directly with your hands, while in kitesurfing, you fly a kite using a harness. Wingfoiling is often more intuitive to handle, while kitesurfing allows for higher speeds. You can learn both sports with us.

When are the best months for kitesurfing in Holland?

The season typically runs from spring through fall. Spring and fall offer particularly consistent winds, while summer provides pleasant temperatures and long days.

Is there an age limit for participation?

There is no upper age limit. What matters most are fitness, motivation, and health conditions. Many adults also discover the sport later in life.

Can I book a course on short notice?

Spontaneous bookings are possible depending on availability. However, we recommend booking early, especially on weekends with high wind strength and during the holiday season.

Can I continue kitesurfing on my own after the course?

Our goal is to guide you step by step toward independence. Whether you can ride on your own right away depends on your individual progress. Many participants reach a level after several days of lessons that allows for independent practice.

Are photos or videos taken during the courses?

Occasionally, we capture moments from our daily training sessions for our social media channels. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let us know in advance.
