Wind, weather & tides
Dakhla is a real wind sensation and provides us with fantastic wind all year round! The trade winds that migrate between the Canary Islands and Cape Verde in summer and winter hit Dakhla all year round, so the wind blows constantly here on 320 days with approx. 15-22 knots. Coming from the northeast, the wind blows sideshore from the right and is further intensified by the mountains in the hinterland, as the wind is forced through them like a funnel.
The climate is pleasant, with a soothing Atlantic influence, rather dry and not too hot.
The lagoon, which is around 40 km long and 4 km wide, was formed by the Dakhla Peninsula and is connected to the Atlantic Ocean. This means that the water in the lagoon is also affected by the tides:
At high tide, you have a standing area up to 300 m wide around the lagoon.
At low tide, this strip shrinks slightly, but can still be used thanks to 1 km of windward freedom. The ground is covered in fine sand. We still recommend neoprene shoes, as there are shell fragments hidden in the sand in some places. At low tide, this area is partially dry and you only have to walk a few meters further to the water's edge.

Direct flights
Some airlines offer direct flights to Dakhla from European cities such as Paris, Bordeaux, or Marseille (e.g., with Transavia or Air France) or Madrid (with Ryanair). Other cities are to follow. The flight time from France or Spain is approximately 3-4 hours.
It takes about 30 minutes by car to get from Dakhla Airport to the center and hotel.
Flight with a stopover
Dakhla Airport can be reached from Munich, Frankfurt, Switzerland, Austria, Amsterdam, and Brussels with Royal Air Maroc with a stopover in Casablanca or Marrakesh. Some flights go via Agadir or Marrakesh, which are also easily accessible from Europe (e.g. with Ryanair, EasyJet, or Wizz Air). From there, there are domestic flights to Dakhla Airport, which are well coordinated with international flights. The flight time from Central Europe is approximately 6-8 hours.
The transfer is included in the hotel price and you can book it directly through the hotel. The driver will be waiting for you at the exit of the arrivals hall. He will be holding a sign with your name on it. He will take you and your luggage or equipment safely to the hotel. Your transfer driver will take you to us in about 30 minutes in an air-conditioned car or minibus.
