Do you have any questions about KBC Brouwersdam?
Where exactly is the KBC kite school Brouwersdam located?
The kite school has a permanent location in Ellemeet on Brouwersdam. It is located directly on the De Hoge Blok mini campsite between Ellemeet and Nordwelle. Brouwersdam is a dream location with a wide sandy beach.
What water sports are offered?
We offer courses and rental for kitesurfing and wingfoiling.
What are our opening hours?
KBC Brouwersdam is open daily during the high season (usually from late March/early April to early November). During course times, we can be found at the respective training location.
What are the spot conditions like at Brouwersdam?
The spot is known for its shallow standing area (shallow water area), which makes learning to kitesurf extremely easy. At low tide, this creates an ideal flat water spot. At high tide, there are waves and a stronger current, which offers a challenge for advanced riders.
Are there any rules or restrictions at the spot?
Please note that kiting between the yellow buoys is not permitted.
Are there parking facilities and infrastructure on site?
For our guests, there is free car and RV parking directly at the entrance to De Hoge Blok campsite. There are also beach bars, a surf shop, showers, and water troughs for rinsing equipment on site.
What is the best way to find us?
Detailed directions can be found on the website under "Getting Here."
When and where does the course start?
We will meet at De Hoge Blok campsite on your first day of training (you can find the time on the website or in your booking confirmation). From here, we will start the course together.
How long does the course last and what times do I need to plan for?
The course is dependent on the wind and tide, so you should not plan anything else for your course day. Lessons take place between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. A maximum of 5 hours of lessons per day are planned. If you would like to leave early, please discuss this with your kite instructor in advance.
How large are the groups in the courses?
The group size is deliberately kept small. For kitesurfing, there is a maximum of 4 to 6 participants per instructor/group, and for wingfoiling, a maximum of 4 participants per instructor.
Can children also take a kite course?
Generally speaking, yes. However, whether a course is appropriate depends on the child's concentration and weight. Experience has shown that the threshold is around 10 years of age, but this is only a guideline. We can discuss the suitability of younger children with you and your child in advance on a case-by-case basis.
We are a group and would like to have our own kite course! Is that possible?
Yes, we are happy to arrange a separate appointment for groups. Just send us a message and we will plan your desired course together with you.
My preferred date is fully booked. What can I do?
Please choose another date. If you would like to participate with several people, you can also contact us; we will be happy to try to arrange an additional date for you.
What if there is no wind?
If there really isn't enough wind to conduct your training, you will receive a credit note from us for the services you booked but did not use. You can also redeem the value of this credit note at any of our other centers worldwide.
Is there food and drink available at the spot?
If you have a constantly rumbling stomach, you should bring a small lunch box with you in the morning. Otherwise, drinks, snacks, and delicious food are available at the beach pavilions.
What do I need to bring to the course?
The course fee includes almost everything you need for the course: wetsuit, harness, vest, helmet, and the latest kite equipment from F-ONE. However, we do not offer rental of neoprene shoes. Please bring your own neoprene shoes. If you don't have any, you are welcome to buy them in our shop. We also recommend swimming trunks/bikini, towel, sunscreen, sneakers (for flight training on the beach), and flip-flops/beach sandals. You can find a detailed checklist on our website.
What happens if I damage my kite or board while kiting?
Damage with repair costs up to €150 is insured by the kite school. Damage exceeding this amount must be paid for by the customer. Loss of equipment is not insured. Participants or renters are personally liable for the loss of rental equipment, both during courses and rentals.
Which licensing systems are used?
Training is based on the VDWS standard. The IKO license can also be obtained at the kite camp.
How does the equipment rental fee work?
You need at least Level 5 VDWS or Level 3K IKO to rent equipment. Please contact us one day before arrival regarding your pre-reserved booking so that we can coordinate the timing.
What if my rented kite is too small or too big due to changing wind conditions?
It is possible to exchange equipment during the day if wind conditions change, but of course only if you go to the shared training spot. The latest equipment (approx. 50 kites in all sizes and 50 boards) is available.
Is kitesurfing dangerous?
Not really! If you follow the rules of sensible kitesurfing, you'll be on the safe side. If you observe the safety rules taught as part of the VDWS/IKO license, kitesurfing is not dangerous. However, it is essential to take a professional course to learn the sport.
Do all employees speak German?
Our office team speaks German. Our instructors are mainly from German-speaking countries, but can also teach in English. If you need an instructor who speaks another language, please let us know in advance so that we can arrange for a German instructor.
How do I find the accommodation that suits me best?
If the information on our website is not sufficient, we are also available by phone and email to help you find the right accommodation.
My partner doesn't engage in kiting. Will he/she be bored?
Even if you don't kite, your stay at our school in South Holland will be anything but boring. Here you will find a selection of activities in the region.
What are the cancellation policy?
Cancellation is free of charge up to 22 days before the start of the booked service. Cancellations between 21 and 8 days before arrival are subject to a 25% cancellation fee, between 8 days and 1 day 50%, and no-shows 100%.
What factor is considered most important for customer satisfaction at the spot?
The presence of a standing area (shallow water) is considered one of the most important factors that makes Brouwersdam one of the easiest spots to learn kiting.
Do I need any previous experience for a kitesurfing course?
No. Our beginner courses are specially designed for beginners with no previous experience. You will learn step by step how to use the kite and equipment safely – from flight training on the beach to your first water starts.
How fit do I need to be to learn kitesurfing?
You don't need any special sports training. Normal basic fitness, swimming skills, and enjoyment of exercise are all you need. Concentration and motivation are important—not strength.
Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes. For safety reasons, we require you to be a confident swimmer. You should feel comfortable in the water and be able to swim independently.
What wind speeds are ideal for learning?
Moderate wind conditions are best for beginners. At Brouwersdam, we often benefit from constant wind and a large standing area, which offers optimal learning conditions.
How quickly can you learn kitesurfing?
This varies from person to person. Many participants manage their first longer rides after a course lasting several days. Factors such as wind, previous experience in board sports, and personal learning curve play a role here.
Does the course still take place when it rains?
Yes. Rain is usually not a problem when kitesurfing. The wind is the decisive factor. In the event of thunderstorms or weather conditions that affect safety, lessons will of course be suspended.
Can I continue kitesurfing on my own after the course?
Our goal is to get you out on the water safely and independently. Whether you can ride on your own right away depends on your individual progress. After several days of lessons, many participants reach a level that allows them to practice independently.
Are there changing rooms or facilities for changing on site?
Facilities such as showers and water troughs are available at the spot. We recommend changing clothes depending on the weather and bringing warm clothes for after the session.
Can I bring my own kite or wetsuit?
Yes, you are of course welcome to use your own equipment. Our instructors will be happy to check whether your equipment is suitable for your current level and the conditions.
Will photos or videos be taken during the course?
Occasionally, we take photos of our daily training activities for our social media channels. If you do not want to be photographed, please let us know in advance.
