The wingfoil course with eFoil Support

Learn wingfoiling with eFoil – Experience the Thrill of Taking Off on a Foil at KBC El Gouna

At KBC El Gouna, we specifically use the eFoil in our wingfoil course to clearly demonstrate how to take off on the foil and let you experience it firsthand.

An eFoil is an electrically powered foilboard. Underneath the board is a mast with an airfoil—the foil—as well as an electric motor with a propeller. You control the speed using the remote control. As soon as the board picks up enough speed, the underwater wing generates lift: the board lifts out of the water and glides almost silently across the surface.

Since the electric drive works independently of wind, wing, and pumping technique, you can focus entirely on your balance, body posture, and the sensation of what’s known as “lift.” This way, you’ll experience that pivotal moment of takeoff within the first few minutes and understand more quickly what foiling feels like—before you later apply what you’ve learned to wingfoiling.

eFoil powered by MANTA Foils

For eFoil training, we use the same F-ONE wingfoil board and foil that we use in our wingfoil courses. The setup is complemented by the MANTA Foil Assist TakeOff mast with a built-in electric motor. This way, you’ll learn how to take off and glide on the exact same equipment you’ll later use for wingfoiling—only initially with electric assistance and regardless of wind conditions.

The eFoil Add-On in the Wingfoil Course

The eFoil Add-On is a bookable course extension at KBC El Gouna. Accompanied by your VDWS instructor, you’ll use a motorized eFoil board to get a feel for taking off on the hydrofoil before trying it yourself with the wing in the wind.

Specifically, with the eFoil you’ll learn:

✔️ what the transition from gliding to flying feels like (the “lift-off”)
✔️ how to control
your height above the water using body weight and foot pressure ✔️ how to keep the foil stable and at a consistent height without “breaching” (the foil breaking the surface) or sinking

You’ll then apply these movement patterns directly to the wingfoil board. Once you’ve physically grasped the concept of takeoff, you’ll usually need far fewer attempts to achieve your first stable flight in the actual wingfoil course.

The student starts out on his knees, holding the remote control securely in his hand. Ready for his first ride.

Why the eFoil Speeds Up the Process of Learning to Wingfoil

With traditional wingfoiling, you have to learn several things at once: how to control the wing, read the wind, maintain your balance on the foilboard, and build up enough speed until the foil lifts you up. Getting airborne is the biggest hurdle—it often doesn’t happen until after many sessions.

The eFoil separates these tasks. The motor handles the propulsion, so you can focus 100% on the feeling of foiling. You experience the sensation of flying in isolation, without the stress of the wing and the wind. You’ll take this “muscle memory” with you into your wingfoil course.

In short: The eFoil makes the abstract goal of “getting up on the foil” achievable within minutes—and that’s exactly the point where most wingfoil beginners usually get stuck the longest.

As your speed increases, the board starts to glide. Now you can focus on practicing the technique for riding the lift back up.

Who would benefit from the eFoil add-on?

This add-on is especially worth it for:

✔️ Beginners to wingfoiling who want to understand the feel of foiling right from the start

✔️ People switching from kitesurfing, windsurfing, or SUP who want to find their foil balance faster

✔️ Course participants with limited time on-site who want to make the most of their vacation days

✔️ Anyone who wants to experience what it feels like to glide silently over the Red Sea

No prior experience is necessary. The eFoil is also suitable for complete beginners, as speed and power are controlled via the remote.

Often after just 10 minutes: Your first takeoff on the eFoil board. Your instructor stands at a safe distance and guides you.

Here's how it works

Booking: You book your wingfoil course and select the eFoil add-on as an extra—either online or directly at the KBC station in El Gouna.

Your Wingfoil Course with eFoil Add-On: Once you’re comfortable controlling the wing and have mastered riding the board in displacement mode while standing, it’s time for your first takeoff with the foil. This is where the eFoil comes into play:

eFoil Session: Your eFoil session takes place on a day with relatively light winds (which makes riding and taking off much easier). We’ll practice in deep water, since the mast and foil require sufficient depth. Your eFoil instructor will explain how to handle the equipment, use the remote control, and ensure safety. You’ll practice riding and lifting off with the eFoil board for about 15 minutes. You’ll experience taking off and flying on the foil under the guidance of your wingfoil instructor.

Transition: Back on your foilboard with a wing, you’ll apply the foiling experience directly to your wingfoil course.

A smart shortcut: Experience the sensation of lift right away, and then work on refining your control of the foilboard.

Why go wingfoiling at KBC El Gouna?

The KBC is a global network of professional, VDWS-certified kitesurfing and wingfoil schools located at the world’s best spots. The location in El Gouna on Egypt’s Red Sea offers:

Where exactly you’ll be flying: Wingfoiling and eFoil take place at KBC El Gouna, where the lagoon meets the deeper waters. You’ll start in chest-deep water over sandy bottom—shallow enough for safe first steps, but deep enough for foiling, which has a draft of about one meter. Above it, the turquoise, clear waters of the Red Sea.

The eFoil add-on is available exclusively at select KBC locations—in El Gouna, it’s an integral part of the wingfoil program.

Frequently Asked Questions About eFoil (FAQ)

What is an eFoil?

An eFoil is an electrically powered foilboard. A quiet electric motor drives a propeller on the hydrofoil, allowing the board to lift out of the water at the push of a button and glide silently above the surface—regardless of wind or waves.

Why is the eFoil used in the wingfoil course?

At KBC El Gouna, the eFoil serves as a learning aid: It demonstrates how to lift off on the foil and lets you experience the sensation of flying before you have to generate it yourself with the wing. This significantly shortens the time it takes to make your first solo foil flight.

Does the eFoil replace the wingfoil course?

No. The eFoil add-on is a supplement, not a replacement. It speeds up the process of getting a feel for foiling, but you’ll learn the actual wingfoiling—wing handling, wind awareness, and taking off on your own—in the regular
